How did the Americans get Beckham?
I’m an American who knows little to nothing about Soccer. But I do know that David Beckham is the biggest star of Soccer, or I would assume as he is the only player I have ever heard of and he has several clothing/after-shave products available in the US, so he is marketed like he is the biggest & best star in the Soccer world.
How then was the US able to sign the biggest star in Soccer to a sport that is a distant 4th on the list of top US sports. First you have the big 3 being the NFL, NBA and MLB, and then you have NHL and then maybe Soccer along with Tennis, track & Field etc. I mean how was US Soccer (a poor league compared to those I just mentioned) able to afford such a huge European Soccer star??

the galaxy pay his contract of under $6 million dollars a year to play in MLS. that’s the playing salary listed. any bloated figures of several hundred million dollars is bogus and they have to do with endorsements. plus he’s an aging star, not a player in his prime. He’s not Michael Jordan in his 20′s. He’s almost a dinosaur now and $6 Mil USD annually to play in MLS is a record. The reason Becks took this deal was because it was about the only good deal offered to him.
