Doubles Tennis Deuce
I am playing my first match and I have a few questions?

I am playing my first tennis match this Thursday. I am on a team of 8 girls. And there is four seperate teams in my league, but our teams are split in half for practices. Anyways…

I know how to say scores and stuff, but say the score is Deuce, and then I got an Advantage Point, would I stay in my Deuce position, or would I move to the other side to serve?
If they got the advantage, where would I go?

Another question:
If you are playing singles, do each of us serve once and the game is over?
And playing doubles, does everyone serve and then that game is over?

Thanks! I don’t want to completely embarrass myself.

I’ll try to make this as simple as possible so you can remember this sequence. In Tennis, whether Doubles or Singles, you start a game at 0-0 or Love – Love if you prefer. The Server serves to the Deuce Box which is the Right Side of the Court. Depending on who wins that point, the SAME person then serves to the LEFT SIDE which is the Ad-Court.

The same person serves out the entire game moving from one side to the other. He/She will be on their Right Service Box if the score is any of the following: [0-0] [15-15] [30-30] [40-40] [40-15]

They will be on their Left Service Box Side if the score is any of the following : [15-0] [30-15] [40-0] [Advantage]

Two terms you will hear, “Ad -In & AD-Out”

Ad-In means the Server has the Advantage and if they win the point the game is over. Ad-Out means you have the Advantage and if you win the point, the game is over in your favor. If however has Advantage doesn’t win the point, then the score is back to deuce again. [40-40]

EXCEPTION – Sometimes in Team Tennis they play what’s called No-Ad Scoring. This means instead of calling out 15, 30, 40 etc. you have 1,2,3,4 scoring. If both Players or Teams reach 3-3 the next point played wins. AND the Receiver can choose which side they want to receive the serve on.

Example: Let’s say you’re playing a No-Ad Scoring Game. You are receiving and you reach 3-3. You happen to like the Ad-Court side for returning better, so you move to the Left Side and the Server must serve to you there.

One last thing – If you are playing Singles, just stand diagonal to where they are preparing to serve. You don’t receive on the same side as the Server is standing.
