New Tennis Balls

Why do they raise the tennis ball when they have new balls?
I’ve never understood why the professionals raise the tennis ball high to the other player when the circulation of tennis balls is new. Can anyone explain it to me? Is it just etiquette?
It’s so the opponent knows that they are new, because the bounce is different than when using a ball that’s been through a set. I’m pretty sure the bounce in higher with new ones.
