Are non British fans of the Premier League aware of the death threats that are completely run-of-the-mill?
for instance in the last World Cup Wimbledon tennis player Andy Murray received numerous death threats for saying he would not be supporting England because he was Scottish; and David Beckham, before he scored an important goal against Greece, had thousands of death threats and hanging effigies of him placed outside his parents’ home, for being sent off in a World Cup game.
Instead of those issuing these, and many other, threats, being locked in a psychiatric unit for the rest of their lives, these events were seen as completely normal and reported by the press in the same fashion as a cat stuck up a tree
Andy Murray actually said he would be wearing a Portugal shirt when they play England.
