Canoe Polo
Game
The game is played seriously in many countries on all continents, for recreation and sport. The sport has World Championships every 2 years. International the sport is organized by the Canoe Polo Committee of the International Canoe Federation, as one of the disciplines of canoeing. In 2005 Canoe Polo was contested at the World Games in Duisburg Germany under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.
Practice on the River Cam
The game is often described as a combination of water polo, Basketball and kayaking. The tactics and participation in the game are not unlike basketball or water polo but with the added complexity of boats that can be used to shield the ball.
Some of the world's best players have come from Australia, with three-time world champion gold medal winner Duncan Cochrane, Brett Houghton and Keith play all McChlery in the successive years 1994, 1996 and 1998 Australian men's team.
Rules
The ball, a water polo ball is in hand to hand in the past Players, with some use of the paddle on the ball also allowed. A player in possession of over the shoulder or pushed back to tackle, may the player only the ball in their possession for up to five seconds. Players can "dribble" the ball by throwing it a meter or more from themselves or from the side into the water. Most of the rules relating to the safety of the players involved. For example, substitution and illegal entry into the play area (see below), the illegal use of the paddle, illegal action against a capsized player, push illegal and illegal screening. Penalties include free goal and sideline throws, shots, penalty shots and goal penalty cards.
Substitutions at any time during the game made without notifying the referee, the player to the ground before another player can Cross to come. If these rules are not followed by a gambler is the captain of the offending team nominated to be removed from the game (sending off).
Pitch
Canoe Polo is played either indoors or outdoors in a swimming pool on a slope that will measure 35 meters by 23 meters. The edges of the playing field are the Sides of the pool, or better, by floating ropes (similar to road markings in swimming) labeled.
Referee
There are two referees (One on each side-line) and they are on foot rather than boats. The score is kept by the secretary and the timekeeper monitors the playing time and place reference times. The goal lines will be monitored by two linesmen. Before the game starts all Kit tellers check for compliance
Goals
The objectives (measuring 1 by 1.5 meters) is a frame with a net, suspended 2 meters above the water. A player who as a goalkeeper defends the goal with their paddles by it vertically upward, special provisions apply to the goalkeeper, for example: the attacking team not to interfere in the situation or push it. The length of the paddle through the goalies are often longer than the other players used.
Timing
The game is officially a 20-minute game of two halves of 10 minutes played. The teams swap ends at half time. Each half begins with a "Sprint", where each team lines to his goal-line and the ball is in the middle of the playing field by the referee tossed. A player from each team sprints to win the ball.
