The news circulating around the scandal of Reggie Bush has been focused on USC’s national championships and Bush’s Heisman Trophy. However, a group of sports fanatics also have their own concerns with what occurred during the Bush period at USC.Reggie Bush has not been a USC Trojan since 2005 but his legacy, once great, has been officially tainted, due to the discovery that Bush and his family received illegal benefits to the tune of $300,000 in cash and benefits while he played for the Trojans. The NCAA has banned USC football from playing in any post season games for the next two years, the loss of 30 football scholarships, and four years’ probation.

USC will also forfeit 14 victories that Bush participated in, including their 2005 national title game in the Orange Bowl where they defeated Oklahoma. Bush may also have to give up his Heisman trophy, which he earned in the 2005 season.
The punishment comes years after the running back left USC, but the investigation has been ongoing since 2006. Bush and his family received lavish perks from marketing agents interested in working with him. He received paid hotel stays and a rent free home for his family, plus a limousine and a new suit to wear to his Heisman ceremony. Bush has denied any wrongdoing in the scandal.
Bush said, “I am disappointed by Thursday’s decision and disagree with the NCAA’s findings. If the University decides to appeal, I will continue to cooperate with the NCAA and USC, as I did during the investigation.”
A four-year investigation found Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush received improper benefits while attending the school. The Trojans football team will not participate in postseason play for two years and will forfeit 10 scholarships for the next three seasons.
The probe stems from allegations that Bush’s mother and stepfather were provided a suburban San Diego home in exchange for his signing with a would-be agent as his client. In January, the school punished its men’s basketball program for recruiting violations involving O.J. Mayo, who played there for one season. The women’s tennis team also received sanctions.
Both Bush, who now plays for Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and Mayo, now with the Memphis Grizzlies, deny any wrongdoing while students at USC. Pete Carroll, the Trojans’ coach at the time of the allegations, is now head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
