Tennis Events 2009

Could Roger Federer have a better year in 2009 than in 2008 despite playing poorly again?
Last year we saw vulnerability in Roger and he only made the SF in Australia, F in France, F in Wimbledon, W the US Open and won a total of just three tournaments in total and finished the year No. 2 in the world. This year he is having a poor year and made the F in Australia, could win in France, could win in Wimbledon, and could win another U.S. Open for a record sixth-straight title. Is Federer doing this on purpose and not playing well in the smaller tournaments or does he just know how to peak at the right time of the year as he ages? He is a master manipulator of the point system (four jewels of tennis- the grand slam events). You have to admire him. He could regain the No. 1 world ranking from Nadal by the end of Wimbledon this year.
lol. I just get a chuckle out of the whole “vulnerability in roger when he ONLY made the SF in Australia, F in France, F in Wimbledon, W the US Open”…
That my friend is not my definition of vulnerability. He WON the US Open!
. Playing poorly is a relative expression. Any year of tennis that lands someone in the top 10 is not playing poorly IMO. Much less one that leaves you at number 2 in the world.
To answer your question however, the potential is there for him to have a much better year than last year at the majors. As players get older you will see them focus more and more on performance at the Grand Slams. Take Pete Sampras for example.. His final year on tour I think the only tourney(at least the only significant one) that he won was the US Open because he did everything he could to peak then and go out on a bang. Federer is probably starting to begin to focus more on the really important tourneys and its only natural.
