What to wear while cleaning a horse and tack care?
I am starting a new job tomorrow at a farm up the road, and I will Grooming and cleaning tack. I live in southeast Louisiana's unnecessary to say so, it will be very hot. I suppose I should just jeans and rubber boots work with a T-shirt but I'm wondering if it ok to wear shorts and old tennis shoes? Any help is welcome! thanks!
Jeans, a T-shirt and sneakers are fine, the is what I wear when I groom and even when I ride, although I substitute riding boots (usually paddock style) for the tennis shoes for riding .. Kmiami needs to recognize that not everyone can afford to buy boots for the purposes of care or make art, and that if you are careful and pay attention to where your feet and where the hooves of the horses, it's very unlikely you will be stepped on or hurt. I am a lifelong horse owner and I worked professionally as a manager and trainer for over 20 years in business, so I know what I'm talking about. The last time I had a horse step on my foot was so long ago, I do not know also remember when it happened, so I know from experience that being careful and know where you will pay off. Wearing rubber work boots is perfectly OK so well in fact, if you have to do with a lot of mud and wet, you may find or need to wear something better waterproof. A few more tips for you one, the other authors so if they do not say, is something you not to wear dirty. This means you need to give comfort and safety a higher priority as a fashion when it comes to dressing for this kind of work. The horses will not have to worry what kind of clothes you have on and when you are in the tack room session Cleaning saddles, they will not even notice you. So I would wear clothing that is comfortable and professional first and please, no open shoes that front, with bare feet or sandals. You can wear shorts in very hot, humid weather, especially if all you do but watch this tack-cleaning around the horse is. Wear a hat and sunscreen use some, if you work outside and plan is to cover-up in the middle of the day when the sun is strongest. When it rains, you can wear a rain suit, but make sure it sits pretty close and does not rattle around-or you will have problems with horses spooking you.
