Tennis Game Game
How do I block out noises that affect my tennis game?
Every time I play tennis, if it’s quiet I do quite well, but as soon as there is an interruption, like a loud truck, kids screaming, a phone call or something like that, I lose my focus and my game goes downhill…drastically and I sometimes can’t get back on track. Any suggestions? Thank you.
I think you’re like Agassi. Agassi was very nit-picky and meticulous about his tennis and the surroundings. He use to bring his own laundry detergent with him to tournaments so that he can wash his shirts himself.
Agassi focused on tweaking or adjusting very simple things one at a time. He always made little adjustments to improve his tennis process/play.
Just focus on the process, not the outcome. Focus on what you need to do to win each point. If you lose a point — was it bad luck? Was the other guy lucky and guessed right, or hit a good shot accidentally? Or could you have done something or should you do something differently to win most of the remaining points?
To focus effectively, you should just try to think about something very simple, something that will help your execution. And that ‘something’ occupy your entire mind… so that everything else will be pushed away from your thoughts. Maybe …. Focus on the seems of the ball? Keep your head down at the point of contact? Track the ball with your feet as soon as it leaves the oppponents racquet?
