Tennis Love French
Tennis: clay or grass?

I love watching tennis but I’d never call myself an expert and I don’t understand the difference between the clay and grass surfaces… Is it the bounce of the ball? I’m not really sure… And also who in the ‘big 4′ (ie Rafa, Feders, Djokovic + Murray) is best/worst on each surface? And which of the big tournaments (US Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open – i think those are the 4) are on which surfaces? Thanks…

grass is faster than clay. which means when a ball bounces off the surface it retains more of its speed on grass than clay. hard courts are concrete (usually with some surface like asphalt). i think grass is fastest, followed by hard court, then clay. but there have been complaints about wimbledon messing with their grass formula which has slowed down the pace of the ball and affecting play considerably

US Open – hard court
Australian – hard court
Wimbledon – grass
French – clay

Rafa used to only dominate the clay courts. but as you can see, he has improved performance on all the other surfaces. the other dudes i think they can handle any surface but dont really perform as well on clay. feds used to dominate all the other surfaces aside from clay, and conceded to rafa for the french open. but thats no longer the case as rafa has stepped up his game on grass and hard court as well. i think murray and djokovic prefer the hard court and grass before clay
