Top 8 players in Mens tennis so solid,No?
there is a huge gap between the top 8 players and the rest of guys on the mens’ tour so that if No.9 ranked player (cilic to date) wins a major tomorrow he will not get even one ranking position better! isn’t it funny?
Now the question: Do you see anyone out of top8 to breakthrough or the same guys will be in london?
if you have enough time predict the top8 rankings at the end of year, here is mine:
1.Federer
2.Nadal
3.Djokovic
4.Del Potro
5.Soderling
6.Roddick
7.Murray
8.Davydenkov

although I knew what you talked about, the point is cilic is about 1500 under soderling, why tsonga, if I win the last 3 slams of the year, I will be in top5, but I was talking more about real world that for example tsonga won’t get past quarters in his best day,

The way the ATP rankings work is this..
first, it’s based on a 52 week rolling total. meaning points from 53 weeks ago drop off.
second, the tournaments are worth different points. max of 2000 pts + 25 pts for qualifying for the 4 grand slam tournaments. here’s a list…

So..look at the 2009 French open vs the current top 10 vs the points that will drop off…and the maximum possible points if the player wins the 2010 FO

what that table means is this.. If Roddick, Soderling and Cilic, don’t show up for the tournament, and Tsonga wins the tournament, he could take 7th place on the ranking scale. Same goes for Cilic
If Federer shows up and loses in round 1 his total points will be 8740+205 = 8945. Even if Nadal wins he would still be 145 pts behind Federer.
If Nadal loses in round 2 and Murry wins the FO, he’ll take over 3rd place. provided Djokovic pays his entrance fee.
It’s very complicated to predict and highly variable among players 2-10.

but here’s my prediction….
Federer stays at #1 through the season even though he’s losing his focus. He knows how to stay at the top.
Djokovic stays solidly at #2
Nadal continues to have knee trouble aggravated by his style of play and extreme grip. He drops to #5 by the end of the year
Murry continues to play well and is encouraged by his fan base and need to win for the UK. He moves up to #3
and in the end, the rankings look like this…
