Does Federer have a better serve than Roddick?
In a survey conducted by the ATP, 68% of the voters said that Roger has the best serve in tennis while a mere 16% said Andy does. The results of the survey are absurd in my opinion. While Federer is much better all around player than Roddick, Roddick’s serve is one of the best of all time in my opinion.

I saw that poll you’re talking about and was surprised like you. For the serve BY ITSELF, Roddick is better. The statistics back this up – Roddick wins 91% of his service games versus 88% for Federer. That is tied with Karlovic and Isner for best on the ATP Tour. But Federer can back up his serve better.
In other words, he has a better overall game. Roddick can get more free points but once the point starts (the goal for any opponent of Roddick is to get the serve in play), Roddick has a tougher time hanging with the world’s elite from the baseline.
