Why are female tennis players paid the same as men?
I have nothing against WTA tennis and I enjoy watching it, but why are women paid the same as men in grand slams when they do far less work. If they played best out of 5 sets, I would have no problem with it. The facts are though, men play longer, they get higher television ratings and its not even that close (unless its a williams sister, then its close), people pay more for t.v. spots and there is more time for the t.v. spots. So men play longer, bring in more money, but get paid the same, that seems really fair.
I am a teacher and I feel like this would be the same if I got paid the same as women to work 6 periods as opposed to women working 4 periods.
Women should be playing best out of 5 if they want to be paid the same.
this issue was put to rest years ago. short answer: women are willing to play sets 5 and can. however, 5 set women and men matches at the grand slams would wreck havoc and extend all four slams. while the australian and us open could take the extension, the other two grands could not. why should women players be penalized for it? to forestall this question in the future, the powers that be need to revamp the tennis season to allow women to play best 3 of 5 at the four majors. i would love that.
