Tennis Tournaments 2009
The tennis tournament will play in Vina Del Mar, Chile, at the Club Naval de Campo Las Salinas as part of the International Series of the 2009 ATP Tennis Tour. This year will see the 17th edition of the annual event taking place, where some of the top tennis players will compete for the Movistar Open Tennis Title. The event is played on clay and features 32-player play-off format.
2008 Movistar Open saw some exciting round of tennis with some of the best tennis players competing for the final title. The championship consisted of singles and doubles and 32 champions started the singles first round, after which 16 of them were selected to play in the second round. The quarterfinals were played between 8 players from the second round who made it to the next level. These 8 players were divided into the top half and bottom half with 4 players each. The final for ATP Tennis Movistar Open 2008 was held on 3 February 2008 when Fernando Gonzalez won with a walkover after Juan Monaco withdrew from the final due to a left ankle injury.
The 2008 Movistar Open doubles matches saw Paul Capdeville and Oscar Hernandez as the defending champions, with Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco as the runners-up. The winners scored a final 6-1, 3-0 against the runners-up.
Many top tennis players have participated in this annual event, and the top-ten players on the list include Mats Wilander, Marcelo Ríos, Carlos Moyà, Gustavo Kuerten, Alex Correja, Tommy Haas, Guillermo Coria, David Nalbandian, Gastón Gaudio, Fernando González, David Ferrer, Jim Courier, Ji?í Novák, Magnus Norman, Sergi Bruguera, Nicolás Lapentti, Álbert Costa, Alberto Berasategui, Emilio Sánchez, Mariano Puerta, Nicolás Massú, and Félix Mantilla.
Some of the past champions for Movie Star Open include Guillermo Coria in 2001, Fernando González in 2002, David Sánchez in 2003, Fernando González again in 2004, Gastón Gaudio in 2005, José Acasuso 2006, Luis Horna in 2007 and Fernando González again in 2008. The tennis champion results for the Doubles matches for Movistar Open for the last few years were Lucas Arnold Ker / Tomás Carbonell in 2001, Gastón Etlis / Martín Rodríguez in 2002, Agustín Calleri / Mariano Hood in 2003, Juan Ignacio Chela / Gastón Gaudio in 2004, David Ferrer / Santiago Ventura in 2005, José Acasuso / Sebastián Prieto in 2006, Paul Capdeville / Óscar Hernández in 2007 and José Acasuso / Sebastián Prieto in 2008.
This year will also see great excitement and thrill at the Club Naval de Campo Las Salinas, where the top tennis players will play to for the prize money of $448,000.
